Hello, I am Demeko, a RUNE staff member!
<In the RUNE Room, we, the staff members, will introduce stories about Rene Naito, information about events, and the daily lives of our staff members.
Today, we would like to introduce “RUNE GIRL,” a beautiful girl character who can be considered one of RUNE’s masterpieces.
Renai’s breakthrough came in 1959 and 1960 with her illustrations of beautiful girls called “Renai Girl” on the cover of the popular girl’s magazine “Junior Soreiyu”!
The large, sparkling eyes, long neck and arms and legs, and above all, her fashionable appearance! This boldly deformed beautiful girl was created more than 70 years ago. I guess so. The appearance of the Renegal girls was quite a shock at the time, but these bright and vivacious girls quickly became the object of admiration among young girls!
The most important thing about a Rene Girl is the sparkle in her eyes! The color shading of the eyes, the dark eyes, the way the light enters the eyes, etc., are all depicted in really fine detail. It is the part we also pay the most attention to when they are printed or commercialized. Without the sparkle in the eyes, the cuteness is really reduced by half (cries).
Renée Girl was at the forefront of her time in terms of hairstyles and fashion, but Renée’s role models were foreign fashion magazines such as ELLE, VOUGE, and SEVENTEEN.
At the time, they were too expensive to buy, so she browsed through magazines at bookstores or even went to the library to memorize trends and incorporate them into her illustrations. The secret of the Rene Girls’ uniquely Japanese style and high fashion sensitivity lay in foreign fashion models and collections!
Until then, bishojo pictures had a rather “beautiful” image, like those by Takehisa Yumeji and Nakahara Junichi, but the boldly deformed Rene Girls have a high character element, and the word “kawaii” is exactly right, don’t you think?
Nowadays, most of the beautiful girls in shoujo manga, video games, and anime are depicted with “sparkling eyes,” but Rene was the first to visualize them.
I was just trying to surprise everyone. I was excited to draw them, and before I knew it, they were born.
It takes a lot of energy to do something that no one else has done, but René was able to do it without hesitation because his desire to draw won out!
Thank you for reading to the end! Thank you very much for reading to the end! <This is Demeko from RUNE’s Room.
