When I looked it up, “徒に” means “wastefully” or “fruitlessly.” It’s used like “wastefully spending time…” It’s an expression often found in classical literature, and apparently it’s also used in the famous waka poem by Ono no Komachi titled ‘The color of the flowers…’ The meaning of uselessness and emptiness is packed into this character. It’s like saying that it’s important not to waste the energy of your heart and to cherish living in this moment…!
